Structural Timber
Thermal lagoons for pine terraces are structural timber treated with steam and heat at 180-215°C. Under the influence of the heat treatment process, the structure of the wood changes, and the resistance of terrace roofs to external factors increases. The reaction to changes in humidity in the environment decreases, regardless of changing weather conditions, the shape of the thermal pine terrace lag remains stable.
The effects of heat treatment on pine wood are most evident: dimensional stability, color darkness, and durability.
Dimensional stability
Thermo-constrictive wood is stable: it does not warp, twist, or “walk” like other types of wood such as hardwoods. They keep their shape and color perfectly.
Sustainability
Thermally modified wood products made in Finland are awarded the highest quality PEFC certificates. Sustainability is paramount – from sourcing wood and responsible production (no chemicals used in manufacturing) to the final product with a long life cycle.
Longevity
The properties of thermally modified timber improve during the treatment process as cellulose – a protein – burns out, which is why thermally modified pine beams don’t rot. The terrace frame and terrace become more durable. This is relevant in the unstable and rather harsh climate of Lithuania.
