ThermoWood pine board AB is not only eco-friendly but also resistant to wood-boring insects and rot. Thermo pine wood is suitable for many construction projects. Indoors, it can be used for wall or ceiling cladding, floors and baths. Outdoors, it is suitable for facades, terraces, and the production of doors and windows.

Origin of Thermo Pine Boards

These terrace boards are supplied by Lunawood, a Finnish company with over 20 years of experience in ThermoWood production. The wood is processed at high temperatures without chemicals, making it eco-friendly and sustainable.

Thermal Modification Technology

During heat treatment, the wood temperature is first raised above 215 °C and then returned to normal temperature. The treatment takes between 1.5 and 3 days and is regulated using hot air and steam. The wood structure changes, removingwater and extracts such as resin (terpenes). Under the influence of the heat treatment process, the structure of the wood changes, and the resistance of terrace boards to external factors increases. The reaction to changes in humidity in the environment is reduced, regardless of changing weather conditions, the shape of the thermal pine terrace board remains stable.

The effects of heat treatment on pine wood are most evident: dimensional stability, color darkness, and durability.

Dimensional stability

A smooth thermal board is stable: it does not crack, it does not warp, it does not “walk” like other types of wood, such as hardwoods. It perfectly retains its shape and color.

Longevity

The best Scandinavian raw materials and non-toxic thermal modification process make thermowood an ideal construction material even and the most demanding projects, ensures product longevity. The properties of thermally treated wood are improved by burning the cellulose – protein during the treatment process, so thermal pine boards do not rot and the terrace becomes more durable. This is relevant in the unstable and rather harsh climate of Lithuania.

Sustainability

Thermally modified wood products made in Finland are awarded the highest quality PEFC certificates. Sustainability is paramount – from sourcing wood and responsible production (no chemicals used in manufacturing) to the final product with a long life cycle.

Aesthetics and Sensory Characteristics

The attractiveness of thermo-wood boards is also reflected in their aesthetics and sensory characteristics: natural smell, pleasant tactile feel and acoustic properties. These advantages of thermowood boards offer the potential to increase comfort in construction projects. The fact that these boards don’t splinter and have no knots is a significant advantage for terrace owners raising children and pets.

Color darkness

Heat treatment improves both the properties and the appearance of the wood. Beautiful brown colour gives it a stylized appearance. Thermo pine for terraces features a rich brown color that depends on the temperature during the treatment process – the higher it is, the darker the color.

Quality class

Type AB decking boards are a mixture of type A and type B boards (ratio A – 70%, B – 30%).

Processing class

The TermoD wood treatment class means that Nordic pine wood is heated up to 212°C and is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Supervision

For the aesthetic appearance and to maintain the color of the thermal pine terrace boards, we recommend covering the surface with WOCA EXTERIOR OIL with pigment (the color range includes 13 colors, one of which is natural). MDS terraces recommends renewing the terrace boards every year (depending on the operating conditions and the direction of the terrace installation).
