Which boards get hotter – WPC or wooden?

Experiment: Which boards get hotter?

The “MDS teras” team has received many questions from customers about how strongly the terrace boards heat up in the sun. They are also interested in whether wood-plastic composite WPC boards and wood boards heat up the same or differently. Therefore, we decided to test it by means of tests.

So, the different types of tables are laid out for a quick experiment waiting for the temperature measurement and the verdict!

Temperature measured: 13:00h
Weather: Sunny summer day
Outside temperature: about 26C

It is a myth that wood-plastic composite (WPC) boards will necessarily be hotter than wood. The temperature of the terrace boards depends on the darkness and intensity of the color and the density of the boards – a denser wooden board (eg larch) will accumulate more heat. Same with WPC – if the WPC is solid, it will be hotter than the hollow. But if we put a light brown WPC board and a dark brown larch board next to each other, the larch can heat up even more.

Conclusion: It is not true that WPC (wood composite boards) get hotter than wooden ones!
