“Features of Scandic WPC boards. How is it different from its analogues?

For those who have come into contact with WPC wood-plastic composite boards, they are probably curious about how the new Scandic WPC boards differ from other brands of WPC boards. In addition, like other wood-plastic composite boards, Scandic WPC has many advantages: it is slip-resistant, easy to install, easy to maintain, non-flammable, and resistant to mould and decay. “Scandic WPC is characterised by its distinctive colour palette and is made using solar energy. Depending on the type of board, they can be either full-width, with a very realistic wood grain and 3D embossing, or full-width double-sided, brushed or combed/ruffled.

Different types of boards

“Scandic WPC boards are available in two different types – M and Solid. How do these types differ?

Scandic WPC Type M boards are available in full volume, with realistic wood grain patterns, 3D embossing and a unique palette of four colours. This type of board was the most popular with buyers last season.

“Solid Scandic WPC boards are full-width, double-sided. One side of the board is combed and the other is combed/riffled.

Authentic colour palette

“The colour palette of both types of Scandic WPC boards has been designed to convey Scandinavian sophistication. These colours represent the latest interior trends and perfectly reflect Scandinavian practicality, natural colours, natural materials and authenticity.

Colour palette for M-type boards

As already mentioned, Scandic WPC Type M boards are available in a choice of four colours.

The first colour is “Espresso”. It is a pleasant brown colour with a light grey shade that gives the board a sophisticated coolness.

The second colour is “Volcanic Grey”. It is a sophisticated, deep, dark grey colour, similar to charcoal, with a submetallic tint. This colour is the closest and most suitable choice when combined with anthracite on the terrace.

“Solid plank colour palette

“Solid Scandic WPC planks are available in two shades – Espresso and Volcanic Grey. Although the descriptions of these colours are identical to the descriptions of Scandic WPC type M boards, Solid boards in this colour scheme look slightly different due to the texture of the board, as Solid boards have a brushed surface. On these boards, Espresso Brown Grey and Volcanic Grey Anthracite reveal new shades and halftones.

Realistic wood patterns

The pattern of Scandic WPC Type M boards is a very realistic representation of the structure of a wooden board. The boards look very natural, their appearance resembles boards of organic wood. This impression is further enhanced by the raised 3D relief of the board, which resembles the texture of natural wood. When properly maintained, boards last for decades and retain all the characteristics of their original appearance.

Various applications

“Scandic WPC Solid boards are full-width and double-sided, so the board can be used on both sides. One side is combed with a riffle, the other is simply combed. This functionality allows the board to be used in many different ways.

“Maintenance of Scandic WPC boards

First of all, it is worth mentioning that the technical characteristics of Scandic WPC boards make them highly resistant to wear, impact, rot, moisture and weather conditions. They do not delaminate, do not develop cracks or other defects. Thanks to the unique combination of wood and plastic properties, these boards are highly resistant to external factors and are ideal for Lithuanian climate conditions. The excellent technical properties of Scandic WPC boards make them easy to maintain. These boards do not require special maintenance or oiling – regular cleaning of dirt and precipitation build-up is sufficient.

Adapted for barefoot walking

Another great technical feature of these boards is that they are not slippery. The soft polyurethane surface and the imitation wood grain pattern make the slip resistance superior to alternative composite boards. These boards are non-marring and suitable for barefoot walking.

Protective layer against external agents

The latest technology allows Scandic WPC boards to be coated with a special, thin protective layer that reliably protects the boards from sun exposure, cold, temperature fluctuations, water vapour and mould. As a result, these boards are guaranteed against rot for up to ten years and against mechanical defects for five years.

“Scandic WPC is a sustainable solution

The sustainability factor is also important when reviewing the technical characteristics of Scandic WPC boards, highlighting the reliability of the brand and the way the boards are manufactured. The boards are made using only recycled plastic (HDPE) and are produced using solar energy. Scandic WPC boards are therefore ideal for those looking for sustainable products for exterior projects.

Simple installation

It is important to note that, in addition to all the excellent technical characteristics listed above, Scandic WPC boards have another significant advantage: they are quick and easy to install. This helps craftsmen and property owners to efficiently install the floor of a terrace or other building, saving time. Correctly installed, the boards are stable and sturdy, and look great aesthetically.

For a smooth installation of Scandic WPC boards, please follow these technical recommendations from MDS Terasos specialists:

  1. Install the boards using an invisible fixing system.

The invisible fastening system will not show nails, screw heads or other fasteners on the surface. This allows you to enjoy walking barefoot and enjoy a seamless aesthetic view.

  1. Lay the boardthe boards directly on the ground.

The boards must not be laid directly on the ground, but must be secured to beams of a suitable support structure.

  1. Use aluminium or galvanised metal profiles, wooden beams.

Aluminium or galvanised metal profiles and wooden beams are recommended for the support structure. The structure shall be designed to form parallel, evenly spaced rows with a slope for drainage.

  1. Pay attention to the distances and spacing to be formed.

The slope from the side of the building should be 5-10 mm per 1 metre. The recommended distance between lagging should not exceed 40 cm. We recommend reducing the spacing between the first and second side lags to 20 cm to prevent the boards from bunching.

  1. Leave spaceroom for expansion.

When joining the boards, an expansion gap of 6 mm must be left.

Wood-plastic composite boards are extremely fast to install on terraces, and Scandic WPC products, with their excellent technical properties, make this process even easier. If you are installing your terrace flooring yourself, please follow the recommendations given by the experts or contact the MDS Terasos team. Qualified professionals will not only help you choose the right type and colour of boards, but also advise you on all aspects of installation and the purchase of necessary accessories.
